When Should You Take Newborn Photos? Why We Love 6–14 Days

If you're expecting a baby, you may be wondering when the best time is to schedule your newborn photography session.

At Luna's Photography, I love photographing newborns between 6 and 14 days old. This short window is one of my favorite stages because babies are still incredibly tiny, naturally sleepy, and beautifully new.

Why We Love the 6–14 Day Window

The first couple of weeks are such a fleeting time. Babies are changing every day, which is why I love capturing them while they're still so little.

Around 6–14 days, many babies are still very sleepy, making it easier to gently photograph those sweet, curled-up newborn poses.

Their skin can also begin to settle during this time. Newborns commonly experience peeling skin and baby acne during the early days, so waiting a little can sometimes give us a softer, more settled look for their portraits.

Every baby is different, of course. Some babies are sleepier than others, and that's completely normal. At Luna's Photography, we never rush your baby. We take our time, follow their cues, and keep their comfort at the heart of the session.

When Should You Book Your Newborn Photography Session?

Although we photograph babies at 6–14 days old, you don't need to wait until your baby arrives to book your session.

I recommend reaching out during your pregnancy to reserve your newborn session. We'll plan around your due date and finalize your session date once your baby arrives.

Having your session planned ahead of time means you can focus on those first days with your new baby without having to worry about finding a photographer at the last minute.

Why Newborn Photos Are Worth Planning For

Those first days can feel like a blur.

One minute you're bringing your baby home, and before you know it, they're stretching, waking more often, and looking a little less like the tiny newborn you brought home.

That's what makes newborn photography so meaningful.

The tiny fingers. The sleepy expressions. The little lips. The way your baby curls into themselves.

These are the details that you'll want to remember.

A Calm Studio Experience for Your Baby

At Luna's Photography, newborn photography is about more than beautiful images. I want your studio experience to feel calm, comfortable, and unhurried.

You don't need to know how to pose your baby, and you don't need to worry if they need to be fed, changed, or cuddled throughout the session.

We'll take our time and let your baby lead the way.

My goal is to create timeless newborn portraits that allow you to remember just how tiny your little one was during those first precious days.
